7 Scriptures for Powerful Fasting

Fasting is key to growing closer to God.  Here are 7 Scriptures to help you meditate on prayer & fasting. 

1. Matthew 6:16-18 

“And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you."

2. Matthew 4:4

"But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

3. Ezra 8:23

"So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer."

4. 2 Chronicles 7:14

"If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
